How Exercising Can Help

Exercising they are learning more all the time that it not only help you physically but mentally. It helps your mind and helps you to remember things better.

It has long been established that regular exercise is beneficial for health in general, but researchers now think exercise is “potentially as effective” as drug intervention, and they suggest it “should be considered as a viable alternative to, or alongside, drug therapy.”

What It Did For My Father

Back in the early 1980’s my Father’s body was a stick. He was walking small steps to the side, talking one word sentences, was shaking, and was told in Jan. 1990 he would not stand up within three months and be a vegetable within the year. His brain would continue to shrink. There was no way around it.

Think again

I force my Father to walk half our block each night. He was walking small steps to the side. It took him 35 to 40 minutes but he did it

He was talking one word sentences. I had him trying to talk as we were walking

I had him use his hands. I said let us use those shakes.

I am a self-employed landscaper and I took him to work. I gave him things to remember. It was important. It was business. He started reminding me. He was starting to remind me daily from day to next week. He exercises that memory. That exercising I believe kept his memory better than the memory medicine. In later years the doctor cut back the amount of memory medicine but he never lost it because he was always using it. He was proud to remind you of whatever.

What More He Did Besides Walking

When he started walking more. He did little things on the job. We started walking more all the time. I never did anything HANDICAP. Then I had him treading water in a pool.

Doctors Said Was Impossible

Six months later he asked to go to London.  He and I were the only ones that said it could be done. Doctors said we were dreamers. He went to London and each day he started walking a little straighter and a little faster. When he got home he was walking straight as a stick fast as can be. He got his appetite back and was taken off all his appetite medicine and half his medicine for his shakes and did even better.

Two Years Later

In two years with all the physical and mental therapy he got all the mussels back in his legs and arms a pot belly and lived a normal life doing things for himself, for 12 more years

Ten years later

Ten years later they said I repaired his brain

Activity is the best medicine not what comes from the drug store!

What They Are Learning Today

Today they are learning that vigorous exercise 3 to 4 times a week will help your memory. At the time I was working with my Father they could not understand it. Since he was exercising 8 to 13 hour days 6 to 7 days a week and was using his memory reminding me of things on the job. That was more powerful than the memory medicine in itself. They took him off the memory medicine for a while and he kept his memory.

Keeping Them Physically and Mentally Active

I took him out to see plays operas, and we went to museums. That exercise both physically and mentally.  He participated in museums by both listening to those teaching us things and doing things. All that exercised the brain.

In museums when we look at colorful paintings that stimulates the brain. In short colors stimulate the brain. We went to the circus they sold all these colorful things that children love. He watched all the children playing around with them. They became part of the show.  We bought a coloring book and at the show we went through the book and he associated what was in the book and colored the book.

He went through magazines that had colorful pictures. Remember when they can’t read anymore a picture means a thousand words.

Colors stimulate the brain. When you stimulate the brain you are exercising it. If you continue the exercise you’re more likely not to lose it. As they say use or lose it. I am proud to say my Father never lost it because he always used it and was proud of it.

So Stay Active

So staying physically and mentally active is important no matter what your state of health maybe. Exercise may change your health around in one way or another.
